The island of Santorini is, along with Mykonos and Crete, the most famous travel destination in Greece and very popular stop on Mediterranean cruises. It is famous for its caldera, the result of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in the world. Santorini is mostly known for its villages (Oia, Thira, Messaria and Imerovigli). Thira, the capital of Santorini, is perched on the edge of an impressive cliff and offers a panoramic view to the Aegean sea and the submerged volcano.
